Your Doctors May Be in Different Cities
You might see your regular doctor in Torrance, visit a specialist in a neighboring city, and go to a hospital somewhere else. Before choosing a Medicare Advantage plan, check whether the specific doctors and hospitals you want to use are included.
A hospital's name or an insurance company's name alone is not enough to confirm coverage. The answer depends on your exact plan and the doctor or hospital.
Two hospitals plus Kaiser means two people at one address may need two checks. Ask each office which plans they take. An outside the plan's doctor list specialist bill can be large.

What Is a Medical Group, and Why Does It Matter?
Some Medicare Advantage plans organize care through a medical group or doctor network. A medical group is a set of doctors who work together. That group may help arrange specialist visits and decide which hospital you use.
Ask your doctor's office which medical group your doctor belongs to and whether the group works with the exact plan you are considering. If you need a specialist, ask whether you need a referral or approval first.
A doctor who accepts Medicare does not necessarily accept every Medicare Advantage plan. Original Medicare does not use these medical-group lists the same way. A Medicare Advantage PPO may pay part of a visit to a doctor outside the list, but that does not mean every doctor is covered or that the visit will be inexpensive.

A hospital may belong to a larger health system, but that does not automatically mean every doctor or location in the system accepts your plan.

A plan with a low monthly premium may still have costs when you visit a doctor, see a specialist, receive outpatient treatment, or stay in a hospital.
Before enrolling, compare the monthly premium, copayments, deductibles, prescription costs, and the maximum you could pay for covered medical services in a year. A copayment is what you pay at the visit. A deductible is what you pay before the plan starts sharing the cost. Also check whether your regular prescriptions are covered.
The right comparison depends on how you use healthcare—not just on which plan advertises the lowest premium.

Only if each facility and the physicians you use participate in that exact plan. Do not assume the two systems share a contract.
Is Kaiser in the South Bay comparable to an independent-network plan?
They are different doctor and hospital lists. Kaiser generally coordinates inside Kaiser. Independent-network plans assemble primary doctors, medical groups, and hospitals separately.
