Lowering Medicare costs
A lower premium is only one number. Extra Help, Medicare Savings Programs, and Medi-Cal are different programs. A Supplement and a Medicare Advantage plan also split costs differently. None of this is a finding that you qualify.

- Extra Help can lower Part D costs. Medicare Savings Programs can help with Medicare premiums. Medi-Cal is California’s Medicaid program. Each one has its own rules. A government agency decides whether you qualify.
- Is the cheapest premium the lowest cost?
- Not always. A Medicare Advantage plan can have a low premium and copays when you use care. A Supplement usually has a higher premium and more predictable costs. Compare both the premium and what you pay when you get care.
- Does spreading Part D costs lower the bill?
- The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan changes when you pay. It does not reduce the amount you owe.
