What is specific to Monrovia and Duarte
People in active cancer treatment often put the specialist, the drug, and the campus ahead of a lower premium. A gap in that path is the local risk, not the lack of an in-town general hospital in Duarte.

The plan pays the benefit. On many California Medicare Advantage plans, the medical group handles the referral from the doctor to the hospital or specialist.

Four-part verification
Check these four before you compare extra benefits. Ask the office, then confirm the same names on Medicare. gov and with the plan.
- The individual physician, not only the practice name.
- The medical group or IPA that doctor uses for that plan. An IPA is a physician organization that, on many HMO plans, lines up doctors and handles referrals.
- The hospital you want, and whether a referral is required to use it.
- The plan’s contract number, not only the insurance company name. A network is the list of doctors and hospitals that plan pays.

When specialty care drives the Medicare decision
If you are in cancer treatment or long-term follow-up, changing coverage without checking the named physician, infusion or radiation site, labs, and drugs can interrupt care. Coverage that fits still depends on your doctors, prescriptions, budget, and preferences—not on a city-wide ranking.

Questions we hear in Monrovia and Duarte
Choose a question. The answer stays until you press Back or Next.
How do I verify City of Hope under a Medicare plan?
Ask the treating physician’s office which plans they take this year at that location, then check those names on Medicare. gov. A campus name only helps if your coverage pays that doctor and that site.
Could changing plans interrupt active cancer treatment?
It can, if the physician, facility, or drugs are not covered the same way. Verify continuity-of-care rules before you change. This site cannot authorize treatment.
Are cancer drugs covered under Part B or Part D?
It depends on how the drug is administered and billed. Some infusion drugs are Part B; many oral drugs are Part D. Ask the oncology pharmacy and confirm with the plan.
Does a transportation benefit cover recurring treatment trips?
Advertised rides often have trip, distance, authorization, and destination limits. Read the plan materials. County Dial-A-Ride and Access are separate programs.
