A hospital is a specific facility where you receive care. A health system may operate several hospitals and medical facilities. Check the exact location you want to use because coverage at one location does not automatically mean coverage at every location in the system.
A hospital is one building. Medicare keeps its own record for that building. A health system is the organization that runs more than one building, or the name people use for the hospital and its doctors.
Huntington Hospital is the building in Pasadena. Huntington Health is the system name. Huntington Health Physicians is the medical group. Those are three checks, not one.
PIH Health is a system. PIH Health Downey Hospital, PIH Health Whittier Hospital, and PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital are separate hospitals. A Medicare Advantage plan can include one of those buildings and not the others. PIH Health Physicians is not the hospital.
Some names get used for both. Cedars-Sinai often means the organization. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is the hospital. Cedars-Sinai Medical Group and Cedars-Sinai Health Associates are medical groups, not that building.
How a hospital relates to a physician network, a medical group, and an IPA is on Your Medicare plan and your medical group. City pages name the buildings and groups people in that city use.
On Original Medicare, ask whether that building and that doctor accept Medicare. On Medicare Advantage, ask whether that exact plan includes that campus and that doctor. The system name does not answer either question.
