Medicare late enrollment penalty calculator
Part B and Part D use different penalties. Pick the one that matches the part you delayed. Both sketches use 2026 public figures. Social Security or the drug plan calculates the real amount.
- Part B late enrollment penalty10% of the $202.90 standard premium for each full year without Part B.
- Part D late enrollment penaltyAbout 1% of the $38.99 base premium for each month without creditable drug coverage.
When a penalty may not apply
- Still working at 65 with coverage from a current employer of 20 or more people can be a reason to delay Part B.
- COBRA usually does not count as that employer coverage.
- Extra Help can waive a Part D late penalty for someone who qualifies. This site cannot say that you do.
The written rules are in Medicare late enrollment penalties. A one-year Part B example is in how much Part B costs if you missed enrollment. Premiums, deductibles, and IRMAA are in Cost of Medicare.
